In Krasznahorkais Roman wird mehrperspektivisch und schonungslos das Leben in Kana (Spiegelbild von Kahla in Thüringen) auf dem Hintergrund eines zunehmenden Bedrohungsgefühls beschrieben. Dieser Stoff, gepaart mit der Uraufführung am Örkény Színház Budapest von Andrea Tompas Roman »Oft sterben wir nicht«, bildet den Kern des ersten Theateraustausches, ein Dialog auf Augenhöhe zwischen Kulturinstitutionen in Ungarn und Deutschland, der Räume für eine Reflektion über Kunstproduktion und Politik während des Aufstiegs nationalistischer Ideologien öffnet.

THEATER EXCHANGE JENA-BUDAPEST

In Krasznahorkai's novel, life in Kana (a mirror image of Kahla in Thuringia) is described in a multi-perspective and unsparing way against the backdrop of an increasing sense of threat. This material, paired with the world premiere at Örkény Színház Budapest of Andrea Tompa's novel »Oft sterben wir nicht«, forms the core of the first theatre exchange, a dialogue at eye level between cultural institutions in Hungary and Germany, which opens up spaces for reflection on art production and politics during the rise of nationalist ideologies.
