Malin Burgau (she/her) studied Scenic Arts (B.A.) and Transdisciplinary Arts and Contemporary Cultures (M.A.) in Hildesheim, as well as Performance Studies (M.A.) in Stockholm. Together with Tamia Hainzinger and Marci Hilma Friebe, she co-founded the performance collective LIFT in 2022. In 2023, LIFT curated the emerging artists’ theatre festival DER SCHREDDER at Theaterhaus Hildesheim. In 2024, LIFT received funding through the OFFspring Artists Mentoring Program for Emerging Artists by LaFT Niedersachsen and the Resident Artists Program of the Thuringian Theatre Association. During this time, LIFT conducted research in Lower Saxony and Thuringia on participation, democracy, and theatre in rural areas, and developed the interactive, democratic performance 51%, which was invited to the RENE Festival 2025.

Malin Burgau previously collaborated with Tamia Hainzinger in 2021 together with Paolo Artisi under the collective name II-5-1. Their first joint production, ANFANGSATMO, was invited to the BEST OFF Festival of Independent Theatre 2022.

In addition to her artistic work, Malin Burgau works as a freelance theatre educator and dramaturg. Together with Robert Ziesenis, she led the directing project X GEDANKEN ÜBER SEHNSUCHT, which premiered in April 2022 at Junges DNT Weimar. From December 2022 to March 2023, Malin worked as a theatre educator at Theater am Markt e. V. in Eisenach, where she directed DIE NASHÖRNER, a production that was invited to the AVANT ART FESTIVAL 2024 and awarded the Thuringian Theatre Prize.

Malin last worked at Theaterhaus Jena in 2018/19 as part of a voluntary social year (FSJ), during which she directed the mobile kindergarten production MEINS UND DEINS.
