Matriarchs
Liliana Barros
Matriarchs explores the image of the feminine.
Past, present, and future unfold an arsenal of symbols, myths, and rituals that have left their traces on the moving body.
Between dance and embodiment, between tradition and modernity, rituals are illuminated – in their function, in their power to create community.
The gaze has often defined being: the body as representative, as a projection surface for ideals – holding the power to decide whether it is veiled or revealed, whether new life begins or ends. A power that is questioned everywhere in the world, yet at the same time celebrated.
Can traces of ancient archetypes reveal blueprints for the future? Which gestures have we carried into the digital age?
Whether the matriarchy is historical reality or an image of longing and fear – what is certain is its inherent transformative force.
