something rotten

»something rotten« is an interactive gaming theatre performance in which the audience makes collective decisions and directly shapes the course of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The character of Hamlet is split into different emotional states: at key moments in the story, the audience decides which state Hamlet experiences the situation in and how he responds to it. This creates a unique version of the play every evening.

Following the variable drama »OASE« from the 2024/25 season, the Theaterhaus Jena ensemble once again explores the power of collective decision-making, examining what happens when many different wills come together and interact.

World premiere: February 18, 2027
