»Das Leben ist vergangen, als hätte ich nie gelebt«
The Glashaus in Jena’s Paradiespark: completed in 1978, inspired by the public park movement of the 1950s, the pavilion was intended to provide the people of Jena with a space for movement and play – including a covered bowling alley and a mini-golf course. But the construction of district heating pipelines and the annual Paradiesfest celebrations soon restricted its use. A place, then, whose own history already has quite a bit to say about the fleeting nature of good intentions.
In May 2027, the Glashaus in Paradiespark in Jena will become a venue for three weeks for the characters from Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard. Evening after evening, they welcome their guests and move between the melancholy of farewell, reminiscing about the past, and the joy of coming together. The result is an immersive narrative that celebrates the fleeting moment – and continues to resonate long after.
