»All das Schöne« is an attempt to convince one’s own mother that life is worth living. It is a reflection on everything experienced so far and an attempt to hold on to it, while realizing that this is not so easy. An attempt to replace the blue hours with golden ones, only to discover that somehow everything belongs together — and that, above all, I need to talk about it. With people. With you!

The text by Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe premiered in London in 2013 and has also been performed in German since 2015. This production was developed at the JUNGES! Staatstheater Braunschweig and can now be seen at Theaterhaus Jena.

Content-Note

The play deals with themes including depression, the suicide of a family member, and the death of a pet. It also addresses child neglect and separation.

During the performance, the audience sits in the same space in which the actors perform.
The actors perform and speak in front of, beside, and behind the audience members. At times, they sit close among the audience
There is a loud bang when a paper bag is burst.
All audience members and actors can always see each other.
At times, the actors make direct eye contact with audience members. The actors also occasionally address the audience directly. Individual audience members may be invited to take on roles or tasks within the performance. (You may decline the invitation by shaking your head or saying no.)
