Abseits im Malsaal
With »Abseits im Malsaal«, Mona Louisa-Melinka Hempel and Céline Karow take a critical look at the world’s most beautiful pastime: football. Just how much patriarchy is actually embedded in football? Spoiler: quite a lot. And above all: how do we get it out of there?
We explore fan culture and statistics on domestic violence, coming out in men’s football – spoiler: nowhere to be seen –, testosterone levels, FLINTA*s in the stands and scarves at the fan house. Between the stadium, the terraces and the pitch, we look at structures, gender roles and the question of who actually belongs.
An evening for anyone who’s curious – whether you’re a football expert, an ultra, a family-stand regular, a casual player or a self-proclaimed football grump.
The play deals with violence, violence against women, and suicide. There is no detailed description or depiction of the violence. It is possible to leave the space during the relevant part and return afterwards.
Alcoholic beverages are among those offered to the audience.
