24 hours in world that doesn't belong to us

Theater exchange Jena-Athens

The performance 24 Hours in a World That Does Not Belong to Us draws inspiration from the iconic film La Haine (1995) by Mathieu Kassovitz and proposes a contemporary theatrical exploration of themes such as social inequality, urban marginalization, violence, exclusion, and expressions of masculinity in Europe and beyond.

Three young actresses form a multicultural ensemble and take the stage embarking on an open-ended search for art and the world in the third decade of the 21st century. Minute by minute, they reveal their research process, composing a stage diary for a documentary that has not yet been filmed.

The performance unfolds at the threshold between fiction and reality. Live stage action and video coexist and complement one another, forming a polyphonic mosaic of images, languages, and narratives. Material recorded in cities such as Athens and Jena functions as a bridge between Europe in 1995 and the world as it is taking shape today. At the same time, the work raises critical questions about the diffusion of violence and the political trajectories of socially excluded groups.

24 Hours in a World That Does Not Belong to Us is an international co-production bringing three cultural institutions from Greece and Germany into creative dialogue, highlighting theatre as a space for artistic, political, and social encounter. At the core of the project lies the ongoing artistic exploration of Pantelis Flatsousis and his team: a stage language that bridges documentary theatre, fiction, and technology, engaging directly with the challenges of the present.
