Mystic Vibes: Demeter's LOL Chronicles
Demeter, the goddess of grain, wanders the fields in tears. No one can console her—until the mythical figure Baubo appears on the scene: the myth queen herself (also known as Iambe or Ishtar). Through a visual joke, she manages to make the grieving goddess laugh. The joke: she lifts her skirt. Or what did she do??? Over the centuries, this myth has grown increasingly blurred; goddesses and mythical female figures have been forgotten or banished to lonely islands.
In the new piece “Mystic Vibes: Demeter’s LOL Chronicles” by the duo hashtagmonike, four divine beings search for the stories behind the stories.
Like lush green moss, they cling to a rock and let their siren-like power unfold. Waiting. No—pausing. Looking around, looking at one another.
The stage becomes a floral trip, an island on which forgotten myths are brought back to life.
