Kendall Jenner cuts a cucumber. Self-care. Skin care. Care work. Waves gently lap at the shore. You know it’s not the same as it used to be.
The world keeps turning, and we’re stuck in endless scrolling. Future? What even is that? Can we talk about the future without understanding the present? Looking at today’s crises, it quickly becomes clear: things somehow… have to… change. Let’s get out of here—the present is something to run from. But where to?
A headlong escape? The future—and thinking about it—is off-limits, dominated by dystopian images and apocalyptic moods. Disconnecting from reality almost feels like an act of self-defense: since the pandemic began, escapism has been on the rise. Once criticized as naive avoidance, today it offers a way to question the limits of reality and rethink social change—at least sometimes. On other days, we retreat into nostalgic narratives, old films, and idyllic “before” scenarios.
If only we had lived a little earlier. When broken things could still be repaired. When the grass was greener, when meadows belonged to everyone. Before smartphones. Back when everything felt less urgent, less complicated. And back then, even the future seemed better.
In Making Plans, hashtagmonike—despite all obstacles—search for this lost future at the end of the rainbow—and, ultimately, for what the future really is. Traveling to Mars? Flying cars? A multi-billion-dollar high-tech city in the desert? And who can actually afford any of it?

Verschiedenste Aspekte werden aufgegriffen: von nostalgischen Erinnerungen und dem Trend zur Vorsorge, um für mögliche Endzeitszenarien gewappnet zu sein, bis zu Zukunftsvisionen reicher Weltverbessererer und eigenen Utopien. Untergangsstimmung kommt vor allem zu Beginn auf. ... Doch bald lässt Mona Vojacek Koper das dystopische Szenario hinter sich. Bei der Erkenntnis, dass der Mensch den Klimawandel wohl nicht erleben wird, die Erde aber schon, küsst sie überglücklich den Bühnenboden und ruft: "Meine Erde!".
