Laszlos Herz

SURREALIST COMEDY / THEATRICAL PASSION / NEW DRAMA

from Peter Neugschwentner
Summer spectacle to open the Kulturarena Jena

Reclaiming one's heart is a heroic act, but now Laszlo, the namesake of the play, lies lifeless on the chaise longue—his heart was accidentally built into a stage set for a Jelinek production.

Now, new heroes are needed:
Laszlo's friends and mother set out to storm the performance and reclaim the heart, encountering, among others, a director with a forklift, a scolding crow, a shrew, and a trumpet animal.

Peter Neugschwentner wrote this play as part of his studies in "Scenic Writing" at the UDK Berlin, in which the director on the forklift wants to break down the wall between the stage and the audience so that theater can be enjoyed under the open sky.

Josef Bäcker and Lukas Pergande take this as an opportunity to celebrate the end of the season with a spectacle: Laszlo’s Heart (world premiere) or, spoken aloud, Let Go, Heart offers a chance to look back on the first season at Theaterhaus Jena, bringing past companions into view and honoring the theater as a place of community—where the burdens of everyday life can be released, but which also demands passion from those who work on and within it.

And an earworm plays a role, too.
