Nobel Prize in Literature for László Krasznahorkai

We congratulate László Krasznahorkai, the 2025 Nobel Laureate in Literature!
The jury honors him “for his intense and visionary oeuvre, which, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, invokes the power of art.”

In the past season, we staged Krasznahorkai’s novel Herscht 07769 at Theaterhaus Jena.
The play tells the story of Florian Herscht, who tries to find stability in the small Thuringian town of Kahna (a mirror image of Kahla) as the town’s neo-Nazi group becomes increasingly radicalized. While order, language, and community around him disintegrate, his own world begins to falter.
An evening about the longing for meaning in a time when everything is slipping away.

We will perform Herscht 07769 again on January 15th, 16th, and 17th, 2026.
