The Knast im Knast Tour

The “Knast in Knast Tour” comprises three presentations of the existing production “Knast”: at Hohenleuben Prison, the Vogtlandhalle in Greiz, and Chemnitz Prison. The latter is a women’s prison operated as a cooperation between the federal states of Thuringia and Saxony.

The theatre project “Knast” is a production of Theaterhaus Jena and was developed in 2023 in exchange with Hohenleuben Prison. The current guest performances are produced by the theatre collective Post Paradies, which is made up of members of the former ensemble and the former leadership of Theaterhaus Jena.

The “Knast in Knast Tour” is funded by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Thuringia, with kind support from Chemnitz Prison and Hohenleuben Prison.

The performance engages with the complex theme of imprisonment in a multifaceted way. It is based on interviews with inmates and was developed under the coaching of the theatre group at Hohenleuben Prison. On stage, the actors take on the roles of this theatre group.

The “Knast in Knast Tour” is designed so that performances and post-show discussions take place both inside prisons and outside. For organizational reasons, the performances inside the prisons cannot be open to the general public. Interested audiences are kindly invited to attend the performance at the Vogtlandhalle in Greiz.
